In indigenous cultures across the world, the family structure is what would make a society stable and impossible to penetrate. Now we live in what is referred to as the modern society. Traditions, including family structure, are seen as outdated and something from the past. When did this become the consensus, and for what reason? The agenda may not be clear if it’s something we have been indoctrinated into since birth.
These are the realities I became aware of while going through my initiatic journey. My teachers posed questions and provided ancestral knowledge that made me rethink the importance of tradition, family, my role in society, and more specifically my role as a woman. An initiatic principle I learned is that once you can change someone's mindset, you can change their life.
I have observed how the modern society has swayed the mindset around family structure further away from tradition over a period of time. The primary targets are women. The feminist movement encouraged women that they need to be equal to men by being able to work the same jobs and do everything a man can do, resulting in a loss of women raising children in the home. There are institutions like planned parenthood that are specifically placed in areas that are predominantly black neighborhoods to target black families. Planned parenthood encourages having the choice to get an abortion and insinuates that having a child could stop you from following your dreams, and ultimately living your life. There is also the fact that women can receive more benefits when they have a child and the father is not present. This gave the impression that a woman does not need a man and are better off without them. Today the theme online and on television is that women, as professionals, have more value and being a mother doesn't add up to enough. This leads to women spending little time with their children after birth before they're already sending them to a babysitter or daycare.
After recently giving birth, I understand even more now the importance of all that has been lost. More than money or status, children are wealth and are the only way to continue a legacy. When children are educated well you will see where the future of that society is headed. The future of our society is in the hands of the mothers that pour into their children. When those mothers are persuaded not to take on that responsibility and instead allow the system to teach their children, where does that lead us? Traditional family structure is about the protection and foundation given to the child. I can only start by working on myself and then guiding my children in a way my ancestors would be proud of. This is what initiation introduced me to. For me, as a woman understanding her role, this is how the reality of revolution is lived, practiced, and applied.
